The Oscars are the biggest awards in ‘Hollywood’- as the film industry in US is called. Hollywood, being the wealthiest and most glamorous of film industries across the world, is a widely watched event.

Highlights from the 2012 event and winners:

• Actress Meryl Streep won her third Oscar (Best Actress) for the movie based on Margaret Thatcher (Ex British Prime Minister) The Iron Lady, while 3D family film Hugo won five awards including cinematography and visual effects
