Vladimir Putin re-elected President of Russia
Mr Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, 59, has been elected as the President of Russia, taking over from President Dmitry Medvedev.
Mr Putin was contesting against 4 other contestants.
Mr Putin has already been the President of Russia twice previously, and was currently serving as the Prime Minister of Russia.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding these elections. Many are accusing Mr Putin of manipulating election results.
In Russia, one President cannot serve for more than two terms one after the other.
It is said that Mr Putin, after serving two terms already, manipulated to become the Prime Minister, put his confidante Mr Dmitry Medvedev in the position of the President- and now, is making a comeback as President, possibly for two more terms.
The government authorities maintain that Mr Putin has won after receiving 63% votes in his favor- though some independent analysts suggest that the number could be close to only 50%.
Russia has witnessed many massive rallies in the past- both in favor of- and against Mr Putin.
The coming few weeks will probably see more rallies, demonstrations and protests- from anti-Putin people.
